From picking your repertoire, to dealing with nerves and how to handle yourself in front of a jury panel, Dr. Young Kim, Coordinator of the Piano Program at the College of St. Rose will give you the inside track on what sets a successful audition apart. The Capital District Council for Young Musicians (CDCYM) is pleased to present a workshop by Associate Professor Young Kim of the College of St. Rose: HOW TO ACE YOUR AUDITION. The program will be beneficial for any piano audition, adjudication, or performance. Students who participate in NYSMTA Evaluations or NYSSMA testing will find this program particularly helpful.
The workshop will begin with a presentation about auditioning. The topics include how to select your repertoire and build a well-balanced program, how to effectively practice and prepare pieces, practical strategies for improving scales and sight-reading skills, and how to present yourself best in front of a jury panel. Following the presentation will be a set of mock auditions where students may perform a piece of their choice from memory and receive feedback from Dr. Kim.
